Hey there, #TheAINatives! 🤖
Happy to have you here joining us with the twelfth issue of The AI Natives! 🥳
Everything goes up, models go crazy!
Deployment of AI tech goes up as a feature, rather than standalone products. ChatGPT tries to find it competitive stance by employing multimodal capacity - which is crazy on its’ own.
But we might be coming to the disillusionment era of this AI hype cycle. The reason? Churn occurs across the spectrum, all GenAI tools are loosing users. Is it now a time for companies to push for feature integration to other tools? Let us see. With these challenges Hype goes close to boiling red, as the race has started.
BTW. You will see a change with 🚩, 💚or 🟠 being next to the news title. This is expression of my take, whether I see the news as positive or dangerous. We will delve deeper into dangers of AI going onward, as there is not enough being discussed in that space. With that in mind…

ChatGPT Levels Up: Now with Sight, Sound, and Speech 🚩🚩
The frontier of AI interaction expands as OpenAI introduces a monumental upgrade to ChatGPT, empowering it with the capabilities to see, hear, and speak. This enhancement not only transforms the text-based AI into a multi-modal assistant but also opens up a new avenue for more intuitive and enriched user engagement. OpenAI reveals that this evolution is a step closer towards constructing more human-like interactions with artificial intelligence.
My take: The advancements are indeed awe-inspiring, but the double red flags aren't just for show. The escalation of AI capabilities brings along a Pandora's Box of ethical quandaries. The ability to interpret visual and auditory information could potentially infringe on privacy or be misused in surveillance. The exhilarating promise of ChatGPT's upgrade is matched by the gravity of the responsibility it demands to prevent misuse and uphold ethical standards.
Anthropic bags up to $4bln from Amazon 🟠
In a noteworthy collaboration, Anthropic and Amazon join forces to advance the cause of AI accountability, as Amazon promises to invest up to $4bln into up-and-coming OpenAI rival. The partnership aims to develop frameworks and tools that bolster the transparency, interpretability, and ethics surrounding AI technologies. By harnessing their collective expertise, both entities are committed to driving a more responsible AI evolution, with a strong emphasis on ensuring that AI systems are aligned with human values and societal expectations.
My take: The collaboration is a step in the right direction towards ethical AI development, but the inherent dangers cannot be overlooked. Even with the best of intentions, the vast datasets and potentially biased algorithms employed could perpetuate existing societal biases or create new ones. Moreover, the partnership between a leading AI ethics research firm and a tech giant like Amazon raises questions about potential conflicts of interest, underscoring the necessity for independent oversight and a multi-stakeholder approach to AI governance.
Spotify Unveils Podcast Translation and Voice Replication 🚩
The realm of digital audio takes a leap forward as Spotify unveils a fresh feature allowing podcast translation and voice replication. This innovation, developed in partnership with OpenAI, enables listeners to enjoy podcasts in their preferred languages and voices. According to Spotify, this initiative aims to eradicate language barriers and offer a personalized audio experience to its global audience.
My take: While the idea is novel and inclusive on the surface, the lurking danger is the potential misuse of voice replication technology. This feature could, in wrong hands, be utilized for misleading synthetic audio productions, causing misinformation or even personal harassment. There are safeguards being put around that, but let us see how effective these will be. What keeps me excited is the potential of multi-language environments like European Union being able to digest more locally originated content going onward.
OpenAI Skyrockets to a Staggering $80-90 Billion Valuation 🚩
The domain of artificial intelligence witnesses a financial behemoth as OpenAI is reported to be raising funds at a colossal valuation of $80 to $90 billion. This funding round illustrates the immense faith investors have in the potential of AI and its capability to redefine the contemporary technological landscape. The valuation underscores OpenAI's position as a titan in the AI arena, propelling forward with innovations that promise to unlock new horizons.
My take: The astronomical valuation, while indicative of AI's potential, casts a long shadow of monopoly and control. With such financial backing, OpenAI could wield substantial influence over AI's evolution, possibly stifling competition and hindering diversity in the AI ecosystem. With AI, we should not put all of the eggs into one basket.
