Rabbit presents LAM and r1, OpenAI opens the shop, while Amazon starts to see AI related issues
Hey there, #TheAINatives! 🤖
Happy to have you here joining us with the twenty-sixth issue of The AI Natives.
This is how we start 2024!
Hype goes up with new iterations of mobile phones, and GPT Store going to live. But while we are getting used to monopolistic positions, seeing what did happen on Amazon with the new ‘lorem ipsum’ makes me believe, that danger score also should go up!

OpenAI Introduces GPT Store for Custom AI App Sharing 🚩
In a bold move to further monopolize AI, OpenAI has unveiled the GPT Store, a marketplace for sharing and discovering GPTs – customizable AI tools based on the ChatGPT model. Since their introduction, over 3 million custom apps have been created, tailored for various needs like text summarization, data analysis, and image generation. OpenAI is incentivizing creators with a monetization program set to launch in early 2024, rewarding U.S.-based developers for user engagement with their apps.
My take: OpenAI is basically rolling out the red carpet for AI enthusiasts and developers to showcase their ideas. Think about it: a hub where you can find an AI GPT app for almost anything, and if you can't find it, just build it and share it with the world. Sounds amazing for adoption, and terrible for any competitor. No wonder why EU starts to look whether Microsoft deal with OpenAI does not speak into ‘monopolistic practices’.
Rabbit Inc Unveils AI-Powered r1 🚩
Rabbit Inc, an AI startup from Los Angeles, has taken a bold leap with its new AI-powered device, r1. Introduced at CES 2024, the r1 aims to replace traditional smartphones with a voice-driven, AI-centric interface. This device, powered by the innovative Large Action Model (LAM), promises to simplify user interaction by replacing app icons with intuitive voice commands. Unlike typical large language models, LAM not only understands language but also performs actions for the user, like booking rides or planning vacations. The r1's design features a rotating 360 camera, a push-to-talk button, and an analog scroll wheel, supporting 4G LTE for global connectivity. Rabbit Inc's collaboration with Swedish firm Teenage Engineering brings a unique industrial design to the table. Priced at $199 for pre-order, the r1 sold in 10,000 units after launch.
My take: Rabbit Inc is thinking outside the box, while staying in the box. A device that does stuff for you just by asking? That's like having a personal assistant in your pocket. And the price point – $199 is a steal for something this futuristic. The problem? It is just a smartphone that is clunkier than the ones we have already, and it’s interface is a rabbit version of Siri.
