AI Natives #6 - are we at the peak of the hype?

From Generative AI's Hype Peak to Tesla's Next-Gen Data Centers: The Future of AI Unfolds

Hey there, #AI Natives! šŸ¤–

Happy to have you here joining us with the sixth issue of The AI Natives!

We continue on the Hype/Danger Index on AI. With number of exploits of core models being reported, while studies reveal that we may have a bit of an authority bias problem with AI, we bump our Danger score to 72 point. Hype also goes up, as AI revolution seems to not only continue on deploying VC money, but now companies start to arm themselves for a big fight with acquisitions, or make strategy revamps from old big players, or focus on physical realm and where we will actually compute all of this crazy demands for AI. Overall score moves accordingly and now seats at 80. Is it a peak? I do not think so.

Let the #6 AI Natives issue begin! ā¬

  • Gartner claims we are at Generative AI Hype Cycle Peak

But Gartner does think so! A renowned research and advisory firm has officially declared that generative AI has reached the pinnacle of its hype cycle. Reaching the peak indicates that the technology has garnered significant attention, but it might be followed by a phase of disillusionment before achieving mainstream adoption (sounds like they are a bit late on that end?).

  • Anthropic releases Claude Instant 1.2 LLM to push on OpenAI

As the more mature models are developed, Anthropic made itā€™s move and unveiled its latest creation, the Claude Instant 1.2. A large language model that promises both speed and compactness.

  • OpenAI went shopping and acquires Global Illumination

OpenAI's however wonā€™t wait calmly to have their prominent space taken - and went shopping. They've just snapped up Global Illumination, and it's clear they're diving deep into AI visualization. With Global Illumination's knack for crafting realistic virtual environments, we're all waiting to see what OpenAI's got up its sleeve next.

  • Stack Overflow introduce AI search and enhancing answers with LLMs

Stack Overflow is also back in the game. The go-to platform for developers seeking solutions that literally allowed models to be trained on the data scrapped from itā€™s community, is undergoing a transformative upgrade with the introduction of semantic search. More relevant and context-aware search results? Yes, please.

With OverflowAI they will provide more accurate and contextually relevant answers as well. Stack Overflow is ensuring that its vast community knowledge is utilized to its fullest potential - which may finally prevent vanishing of the users to continue.

  • NVIDIAā€™s new Golden Coin: The H100 Hopper Processor

More models means more need for GPUs to train them, and NVIDIA's introduction of the H100 Hopper processor made the market go berserk. Designed to cater to modern AI applications, this processor is expected to set new standards in AI-driven tasks, from data analysis to gaming. And everyone wants to have it.

  • Tesla is hungry for Next-Gen Data Centers (and they are not the only ones)

More GPUs means more centers are needed to host them. Tesla is set to construct first-of-its-kind data centers, marking its foray into the rapidly evolving data infrastructure landscape. This move aligns with the broader industry trend, where the surge in AI demands is reshaping the data center industry. As AI models become more intricate, the need for powerful infrastructure becomes paramount. Traditional cloud systems are now transitioning to decentralized data centers, equipped to handle the computational prowess these advanced models necessitate. Tesla's initiative, combined with the industry's proactive approach, underscores the commitment to not only cater to present AI demands but also to future-proof the infrastructure for an increasingly AI-centric world.
